By Bernadette Idalu
The Committee of Benin Elders has  appealed to the people of Edo State to remain steadfast, law abiding and peaceful as they discharge their civic duties on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Addressing residents of Edo State through a release, the Committee Chairman, General Godwin Osagie Abbe, Rtd. CFR, urged residents to turn up massively to vote according to the dictates of their conscience in the forthcoming elections.

He pleaded with, "relevant authorities at the national and state levels to continue to remain neutral, provide an environment that is conducive for voting and protect the lives of citizens, which will give credibility to the process."

The Elders stated that they have reviewed the current situation nationwide, especially the unfolding political developments and perceived disquiet in a segment of the society hence the plea for people to be law abiding and peaceful.

Nonetheless, the group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be truly independent and impartial by following the electoral laws strictly to help deliver a credible outcome which will engender confidence in Nigerians and the international community.

In view of unfolding scenario, it must be noted that though the tenure of the Edo State governor pans out next year, however, political fireworks have already been set cracking by the manner political parties market their candidates while expectantly awaiting poll results for Saturday's election to fill the twenty four (24) slots into the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA).
