Due to an exparte motion and subsequent relief granted aggrieved political parties by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, (EPT) to enable them inspect materials used for the Presidential election, the governorship and state assembly election earlier scheduled to hold across Nigeria on Saturday, March 11, 2023, have now been rescheduled to March 18, 2023.

The change in schedule is to give aggrieved parties time to carry out the forensic inspection of over 176, 000  bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) machines used for the Saturday, February 25, 2023, presidential and national assembly election as well as heeding the plea of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who asked for time to enable it reconfigure the BVAS for activation on new slated date for election.

Stating the position of INEC via a press statement on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, Barr. Festus Okoye, Chairman Information and Voter Committee said that consequent on the rescheduling, campaigns by political parties will continue till the night of Thursday, March 16, 2023.

He affirmed that INEC was not against litigants inspecting materials as that would allow aggrieved political parties have access to materials to pursue their suits in court.

He nonetheless reassured all "political parties and candidates that the data from the presidential and national elections will be backed up and available in INEC cloud facilities, including the INEC  results viewing portal (iREV).

"Political parties can apply for Certified True Copies of the back end data of the BVAS. Also, the results on the BVAS will continue to be available on the iREV for interested parties to access."
