EIRS Starts PoC verification Nov.

BENIN CITY- Poised to ensure only road worthy vehicles ply Edo State roads especially in these "ember" months, in compliance with a Joint Tax Board (JTB) directive, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), on November 1, 2023, commences its annual Proof of Ownership Certificate (PoC) renewal drive.
 
In a release made available to the Nigerian Observer Newspaper, today, October 24, 2023, Chairman, Taskforce on IGR, EIRS, Hon. John Osagie Inegbedion stated that the exercise was embarked upon to ensure a safer road network for all and sundry.

He maintained that the EIRS in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs), security agencies and transport unions, shall embark on a motor vehicle documentation and compliance exercise through the remaining months of 2023. Also, motorists found to be in contravention shall be prosecuted in line with extant road traffic laws.

Inegbedion upheld that the certificate, which comes at a cost of one thousand naira (N1,000) on an annual basis, is aimed at tracking and maintaining the integrity of all vehicles registered on the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme (NVIS) database.

The issuance of Proof of Ownership Certificate (PoC) he said will minimize incidents of car theft and maximize the recovery of stolen vehicles. "It will ensure easy verification of certificates, trace of stolen vehicles through an enabled nationwide database of vehicles."

The EIRS Chairman encouraged motorists to key into the process as compliance will enhance the national vehicle database for national security, planning and economic development.

The revenue service tasked motorists with expired vehicle documents to visit any EIRS branch offices for revalidation of their expired vehicle particulars.

Motorists were encouraged to take advantage of the self-service portal by visiting www.eirs.gov.ng  to renew expired vehicle papers from the comfort of their home.
