Organized Labour Suspends Strike

Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), have been directed to resume work at their office's nationwide tomorrow following the canceled indefinite strike scheduled for October 3, 2023, by the organized Labour to press in demands to government to cushion present hardships trailing the removal of petroleum subsidy.

Though word is yet to be heard officially from Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), President, to confirm this stand, as at the time of filing in this report, however, Deputy President, NLC, and President General, MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju through an electronic (e) signed press release from  Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, directed members of the union to resume work tomorrow based on his claim that the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had agreed to cancel the strike action.

He pointed, "After the outcome of emergency meeting  summoned today, October 2, 2023, between the federal government and  labour leaders was held, the NLC and TUC had jointly agreed to suspend the strike to allow for implementation of the NLC demands. Consequently, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC had directed that all its affiliate members should direct their members to return to work tomorrow, October 3, 2023 as the planned indefinite strike  has been suspended."
