Akpata Records Landslide Victory At LP Primary Election

The Chief Returning Officer for Edo 2024, Labour Party (LP) primary election and Deputy Governor, Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emeta, today, February 23, returned Barr. Olumide Akpata as the party's candidate for the September 21, 2024, governorship election, haven polled a total of three hundred and sixteen (316) votes.

The elated Barr. Akpata who was all smiles, waving hands at supporters in all directions before making a grand exit, earlier on, appreciated family, supporters and members of the LP at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, venue of the election, for their support in his acceptance speech, promising to work for the good of the state if victory is replicated once more at the September 21, 2024, Edo off cycle election.

Interestingly, of the fifteen (15) aspirants who set out to rule the party, most of their political ambitions ended up as stillbirths for some withdrew or collapsed their dreams for the greater good of the party. Others forged on but ended up with no votes cast in their favour despite efforts put into the campaign process. 

After due collation of votes, Mr. Sunny Eromosele scored seven (7) votes; same for Mr. Kenneth Imansuagbon popularly referred to as the "Rice Man" while Mr. Segius Ogun scored four (4) votes. Mr. Ernest Abebe polled a total of three (3) votes. Other participants recorded no votes.

The delegates comported themselves in an orderly manner even when some aspirants got peoples attention by their loud entrance and displays of public solidarity by their retinue of supporters. However, security personnel stationed to maintain peace and orderliness at venue flagged down the extra crowd and their public showmanship, directing them to the sidelines, away from the voting arena.
