The National Association of University Students, (NAUS), Monitoring Committee, Edo State, led by its President, Comrade Osahon Eseosa Destiny, yesterday, June 25, 2024, paid an advocacy visit to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), to solicit for media support.
The students group whose membership cuts across universities in Edo State, and empowered with the mandate to promote and protect the fundamental rights of all university students in the state while serving as a bridge between the student union government and students to help ensure the university community is conducive for learning, got a positive nod from Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman, NUJ, Edo State Council who acquiesced to their specific request for support and media visibility for its upcoming "NAUS Leadership Summit" scheduled for next month.
The summit, programmed to pull students together to forge a formidable relationship during a three day period in July, creates a purview for interaction with Edo 2024, governorship candidates to "X-ray" their manifestos and examine their policy tilt as it affects the welfare of students.
Osahon affirmed that the advocacy visit to seek support and collaboration for all their activities was expedient based on the need to erase stereotypes where citadels of learning are viewed as epicentres of protests where movement on surrounding streets get distorted to that where students engage in peaceful demonstration, with adequate messages and position of students on salient issues are passed through the media to government or institutions of learning on issues which affect them.
Earlier, NAUS joined by the NUJ chanted the "Aluta" song in solidarity.
