EDSG Unveils Management Team for Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens FC...Cautions against hooliganism

The Edo State Government, yesterday, January 14, 2024, unveiled new coaches who would coordinate the affairs of Bendel Insurance Football Club (FC) and Edo Queens FC.

Also unveiled was a new Technical Director, Team Manager, Head Coach and other members who are to strengthen the Management team of Bendel Insurance FC, while Edo Queens FC in addition to getting a new management and technical team, showed off twelve newly recruited players and a scout.

Above move by government is hinged on the  quest to empower these teams through exposure to quality technical training such as to make them capable enough to win more Laurels from the Nigeria Football Premier League and Nigeria Women Football Premier League respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa who stood in for  Governor Monday Okpebholo said the injection of new life into the football team was aimed at reinvigorating the winning streak of Bendel Insurance FC which incidentally just advanced from the relegation table to a successful outing in the Premier League table, while Edo Queens has continued to maintain a leading role with its crop of talented players in the Nigeria Women football league.
   
However,  Governor Okpebholo cautioned against indiscipline, truancy and football hooliganism by players. He reiterated his administrations commitment to sports development in the state.

The governor charged the new coaches of Bendel Insurance FC and Edo Queens FC to use their wealth of experience to bring about an overwhelming victory at their various engagements.
      
The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Mr Desmond Enabulele said the unveiling of the new "Head coaches" for Bendel Insurance FC - Mr. Greg Ikhenoba and Edo Queens FC, Mr. Moses Okpabose was a manifestation of the vision of the commission to implement faithfully the mandate given by the governor to redefine sports as a potent tool for fostering unity.
       
Mr. Enabulele said the coaches of both football clubs and members of the management teams were men of proven integrity whom have carved a niche for themselves in sports development.
       
The twelve new players for Edo Queens FC  are expected to hit the ground running and victorious in their first encounter with Abia Babes on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
      
Chairman, Edo Football Association Mr. Festus  Erhuwunse commended Edo State Government for it's interest in sports, noting that this interest will go a long way in curbing youth restiveness. He presented Jersey number "01" to the Governor and Jersey number "02" to the deputy Governor in appreciation for their renewed effort at taking sports to the next level.

Meanwhile, Comrade Roland Momoh Abu, Member, Bendel Insurance FC "Management Team" said the unveiling was a nouveau riche experience as it created a greater leeway  for moving the football club forward.

Hon. Donald Okogbe, Chairman, House Committee on Youths, Sports and Information and Member, representing Akoko Edo 11 Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly, (EDHA) said the committee would work round the legislative clock to build an environment that allows sports to thrive by adhering to oversight functions which ensure that all that have been budgeted and legislated upon get implemented to the fullest. He stated that the House committee would double up efforts to ensure that there are no bottlenecks that stop sports from thriving.

Personalities at the occasion  included the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon. Ganiyu Audu; Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon Pius Alile, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Samson Osagie and stakeholders in the sports industry.
