Renewed Hope Agenda: Idahosa commends Tinubu during ambulance commissioning ceremony at UBTH, calls for more medical interventions

To cut down morbidity and mortality rates during medical emergencies, the

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on Monday, commissioned an ambulance for public use at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), facilitated under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Idahosa as part of ceremonies at the commissioning, declared, "On behalf of His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Honourable Minister for Health, Prof. Ali Pate, I hereby commission this moving equipment to University of Benin Teaching Hospital."

Idahosa while praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the gift of the ambulance to UBTH commended efforts of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare in Nigeria, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate for selecting UBTH as a beneficiary health institution in the Federal Government funded ambulance programme, which has the state of the art facilities for quick medical interventions.

Idahosa mentioned that the SHINE Agenda of Edo State is aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as both both the Federal and State Governments have through these agendas prioritized the health needs of the masses.

The Deputy Governor haven commissioned the ambulance proceeded on a guided facility tour of the health institution with stop brief overs and interactions at the Emergency Medicine Department. He had an interface with the UBTH Management Staff at the Forensic Pathology Unit, the MultiFaith Centre; Ward for the elderly (Geriatric unit); X-ray and Ultrasound unit; Special Investigative Unit (SIU), with a final stopover at the Oncology (Cancer treatment) Centre. 

Fielding questions from members of the press after the facility tour, Idahosa upheld, "I had to do this facility tour because part of the projects here were attracted when I was a member of the Federal House of Representatives. One of those projects is the Oncology Centre, which is the Cancer treatment Centre.

"It is functional as you can see. I decided to see it. It can be likened to an oversight function. I give kudos to the UBTH Management led by Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu.

"I thank the President and the Minister of the Federal Republic and the Federal Ministry of Health. They have done fantastically well. However, i want to tell the President of Nigeria that we need more projects in UBTH as it is strategically located in Nigeria. The more we equip the hospital with modern equipment, the more opportunity and universal basic treatment would be available to our patients."

Earlier, during her welcome address, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), UBTH, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu praised all parties that facilitated the donation of the ambulance to the institution and the medical interventions it would be used to achieve.

She informed, "The ambulance is a working theatre. Critical in evacuating cases of trauma to the site of care; with medical interventions done within the ambulance before getting to the hospital."

For efficiency, the CMD stated that the ambulance is going to be stationed at the UBTH "Emergency unit" for quick "Evacuation of emergency and trauma cases."

She mentioned medical engagements of the hospital backed by the declaration, "We are the number one cancer treatment Centre in the South-South of Nigeria."
