Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA) has upheld that lawless citizens see EDSTMA as a threat to their misbehavior.

The EDSTMA Public Enlightenment Officer, Mr. Omoruyi Frederick Eguavoen while positing on reckless driving, frowned at the allegation by some commercial drivers that the agency was only out to fleece them of their hard earned money.

Reacting to the observation in an exclusive interview, the EDSTMA spokesman enlightened that their primary role is to rid the roads of traffic. "Enforcement is also used to instill and calm traffic situations. In a scenario where you don't have enforcement in place you find motorists abusing the road situation. It leads to time wastage, accidents, injuries and even economic loot. Anyone who flouts the traffic regulations will face the repercussions. Many motorists are not patient enough. The EDSTMA enforcement team are meant to enforce the state traffic law."

Reacting to raised observation on the efficacy of enlightenment since commercial drivers are increasingly beating traffic rules in order to meet up with their daily monetary targets, he informed that the establishment was moving from one park to another and to bus terminals to enlighten them on the virtue of patience, and waiting to see the neon light turn green before moving instead of being found wanting as a defaulter.

He observed, "When apprehended the time they spend for the process of paying into government account, they discover that if they had to wait for one minute is incomparable. That one minute of wait is incomprehensible to the time they spend when apprehended."

Speaking on the level of enlightenment of drivers, commuters and pedestrians towards keeping alert to stem avoidable road crashes and unnecessary human carnage on the roads especially during the "Ember" months, he enthused, "We have already started our sensitization to make the public or road users acquainted with the laid down rules and regulations in order not to be victims of either road accidents or economic loot. We have been to Isiwe off Cook Road. We enlightened on indiscriminate parking and we placed notice of removal upon some abandoned vehicles. More activities are lined up; as soon as we get more clarifications from our Managing Director, Mr. Dennis Oloriegbe, we will kick start the end of the month 'Ember month' awareness campaign."

Debunking myths concerning the ember months season, he urged, "The public should be aware that this period is like every other months hence they need to take control of their driving so as not to drive out of the season into the great beyond. Drivers are running out of patience, abusing traffic light, markings, disobeying rules and regulations even mitigating all rules,   measures and modalities put in place

Addressing pedestrians and motorists on how to get optimum value while using the roads on a daily basis, Eguavoen
advised every road user to try to put their vehicle in good working condition, obey traffic rules and regulations. Commercial drivers should let their passengers know that they are in charge and stop being pressured to park in unauthorized places. This is based on the feedback we have had.

He revealed further, "We have road signs, markings, designated bus stops they need to make use of in order to have the roads free of traffic gridlock or traffic jam. This Ember period as I said earlier, is not different from other months but it is the attitude of people through impatience that leads to injuries, accidents and even economic loot hence the need to comply with laid down traffic rules and regulations and to drive simply at all times. If at all a driver is tired, it is better for him to take a nap than driving out of weariness that will pose a risk to the lives of others."
