NILDS Holds Democracy Quiz

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Education, today, October 19, 2022, held its annual national quiz competition on legislature and democracy for public and private secondary school students at the John Odigie Oyegun Civil Service Training School to broaden the knowledge base of students and ignite interest in the democratic process.

Speaking on objectives of the 7th edition of the competition which targets schools in the federation, the Director General NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman represented by the State Coordinator, Eromonsele Omonigho stated, "This quiz competition is to provide continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students and youths on the history, practice and process of the legislature and encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance.

"It aims at encouraging the students to imbibe the reading culture, engage the students in critical thinking and national consciousness and awareness to enhance and stimulate the students  interest in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and democracy as they grow."

At the end of the keenly contested quiz competition, Itohan Girls Grammar School emerged state champions with a grand total of fifty (50) points while Mustard Seed Preparatory School (45) points, haven had a tie with Little Stars Academy (45), came second during a knockout session while Western Boys High School took the fourth position.

Gift packs and certificates of participation were later presented to all participating schools.
