Berta Medical Centre Eye Clinic, today, October 12, 2023, carried out eye checks and a glaucoma screening advocacy visit to Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), to mark "World sight day."
Running with the theme, "Love your eyes at work," to help focus world's attention on the importance of eye care in the workplace, the event afforded revenue staff the opportunity to get screened while at work.
Dr. Akhigbe Victory, one of two optometrists at hand said the free eye screening, counselling and provision of remedial drugs to correct minor eye defects was part of a string of scheduled public social responsibility events embarked on yearly by the association of optometrists and ophthalmologists worldwide to tackle eye problems especially "Glaucoma" a silent thief of sight.
Head, Human Resource Management, EIRS, Osagie-Erese Latoya said the screening was a welcome development for "sight is life itself."
The HR Manager said having good eyesight was part of the EIRS health policy which aims at the overall wellbeing of staff to enable them discharge their jobs effectively as to achieve set goals and objectives of the revenue service.
She pointed out that the free medical outreach by the eye clinic was most welcome as it enabled staff members to take advantage of presented opportunity to run eye checks and do something about discovered eye defects.
She stated, "It is better you know what is wrong with your eyes and tackle it before it gets out of hand."
