By Bernadette Idalu
The Chief Returning Officer, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Edo Gubernatorial Primary Election and Governor, Zamfara State, Mr. Dauda Lawal, today, February 22, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium returned Asue Ighodalo Esq as the elected candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2024 Edo Governorship election.

Haven polled a total of five hundred and seventy -seven (577) votes from the eligible five hundred and eighty - five (585) delegates, in an open- secret balloting system supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the PDP national working committee, Ighodalo expressed profuse thanks to one and all in his acceptance speech. He promised to use the good works of the present governor as a launch pad to offer more good works to the people of Edo State if eventually elected as governor.

With a total of six (6) voided votes, and one (1) vote unaccounted for, the primary election which initially had ten (10) aspirants justling for the main spot became a bit predictable with two (2) aspirants, Rt. Hon. Ogbeide Ihama earlier and Ms. Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion Esq at the venue of the primary election withdrawing from the race voluntarily. Two aspirants, Hajia Adiza Umoru and the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu were conspicuously absent.

After due sorting of the ballot boxes  during the PDP State Congress, which had Senator James Manager as its electoral officer, Anselm Ojezua Esq had no vote cast in his favour. Same fate applied to Osaro Osazee Onaiwu, Arthur Esene Esq, Mr. Felix Akhabue and Amb. Martin Uhomoibhi. Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu however had one vote cast in his favour.
