4th Edo State Sports Festival Organizing Committee Inaugurated by Edo DG

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa has inaugurated the 4th Edo State Sports Festival Organizing Committee, giving them the mandate to improve on grassroots sports development.

Addressing the twelve committee members at the Edo State Government House on Friday, February 7, Hon. Idahosa told the Chairman, Edo Sports Commission, Mr. Amadin Desmond Enabulele; Secretary, Sabina Amiemenoghena Chikere; representatives of the three senatorial districts in the commission, team leads and other members of committee to discover new talents in all fields of sports in the scheduled Edo State Sports festival holding April, this year.

He said talent discovery will boost opportunities for hauling in medals for the state during the National Sports Festival slated for May, this year, in Ogun state.

He upheld, “The Edo State Government places premium on grassroots sports, hence, the state is participating in the National Sports Festival which will no doubt boost socioeconomic development of communities of the state, and, enhance the physical and mental well being of athletes during the festival.

“Research has shown that sports competition is a veritable platform to groom sports men and women in talents identification and physical well being of the people.”

The Sports Commission Chairman, Mr. Amadin Desmond Enabulele said the committee was fully aware of the responsibility entrusted to them hence were resolute to show result. He promised to "work closely with all stakeholders, association chairmen, board members, sponsors and the general public in a transparent, innovative and efficient planning process."

Enabulele said unlike last year where the sports festival featured ten sports, sixteen sporting activities are lined up for this year.

On her part, Sabina Chikere thanked the Edo State Government for giving them the rare privilege to serve the state through the sports commission, with the assurance of making the state proud at the upcoming events through compliance to laid down rules and regulations.
