Okpebholo charges newly inaugurated board members on dedication to duties

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, today, Wednesday March 26, 2025, charged designate members of the Governing Council, Edo University Iyamho; Governing Council, Persons with Disabilities and the Edo State House of Assembly, (EDHA), Service Commission, to discharge their duties diligently as permitted by law as they were handpicked from society for these duties based on their areas of proficiency.
In his charge of office to the appointees at the New Festival Hall, Edo State Government House, Benin City, Okpebholo reminded them of being carefully selected from society which placed high expectations on them based on the need to discharge their duties impeccably, backed by the fear of God.
This was followed by an inauguration and swearing in ceremony to office amidst cheers from family, friends, government officials and inquisitive minds.
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Edo University Iyamho, Professor Olusegun Olusina Akinyinka, who
responded on behalf of his group, declared that it was an honor and privilege to be invited to be part of the drive of His Excellency, the Governor, for qualitative higher education in Edo State.
He stated, "We are grateful for the unflinching confidence reposed in us by His Excellency and the State Executive Council to serve the good people of Edo State and the nation.
"It is clear from the quality, diversity and experience of the team that the State Government demands an impactful tenure. We pledge to do all in our power. God helping us, to reposition the Edo University Iyamho to implement a transformative agenda by revamping the core mandate of teaching, research and community service, including the provision of qualitative and high end medical care."
Pointing out the school's area of needs, Professor Akinyinka mouthed, "Council hopes that the state government will assist in the revitalization of the teaching hospital that will drive our organ transplantation programme in the Teaching Hospital."
Professor Akinyinka pledged his group's diligence to duty, "Working with the University Management, Staff and Students we shall deliver on the core values of a University that is relevant to national development through measurable Key Performance Indicators and Personal Development Plans of individuals that promote the visibility of an Institution such that it would be one of the universities of first choice in Nigeria."
Giving insight into the group's scheduled itinerary, Akinyinka said, "It is our plan to visit the University to interact with the Management, staff and students representatives as well as visit the facilities in the Institution periodically.
"And working with the University Management, Staff and Students we shall deliver on the core values of a University that is relevant to national development through measurable Key Performance Indicators and Personal Development Plans of individuals that promote the visibility of an Institution such that it would be one of the universities of first choice in Nigeria."
He expressed gratitude to the governor and members of the Edo State Executive Council on behalf of the newly inaugurated Governing Council members.
