NSF: Team Edo Ready For Gold Medal Haul, Enabulele states

Just days to the official opening of the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged "Gateway Games Ogun 2025" holding May 16 - 30, 2025, Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele on Wednesday, May 14, at the Edo State Government House revealed his optimism at having "Team Edo" clinching the overall top spot at the National Sports Festival, (NSF).

Revealing his optimism while speaking with members of the press, Enabulele expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for rendered support to the sports commission.

He stated, "All the financial needs for our members have been approved. The people who have been in camp for the past fourteen days with plans to head out of camp to Ogun State on Friday would be paid their bonuses between today and tomorrow. We are in a good shape financially for us to do very well."

Enabulele stated that based on the support from Governor Monday Okpebholo, the Sports Commission has been able to domicile 920 athletes and 102 coaches at camp, undergoing training for the past fourteen days in order to boost the physical fitness of athletes.

He said sports secretaries have also been working closely with the team, resuming daily at camp, ahead of trials, where a total number of 718 athletes, 89 coaches and 32 secretaries would earn placements into the "Team Edo" contingent. 

Enabulele said gained experience from the "Niger Delta Sports Festival" which held at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from April 1- 9, wherein team Edo coasted home with 23 Gold medals and 39 Silver medals was an eye opener which has motivated the quest to aim for Gold medals and the number one spot.

The Sports Commission Chairman opined that with the present state of physical fitness of athletes, he was optimistic of the ability of the Team Edo contingent to win at least, 130 Gold Medals to be declared winners of the sports meet.
